How to Outsmart Cold and Flu Season

6/14/2016

It’s cold out there; did you know that the flu and cold virus can live longer in the dry, cold conditions of winter?
Coughs, colds and flu make you feel miserable, tired and lethargic, so maybe it is time to try something different this year.

The best way to stay healthy is to build your immune system.

1 Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, rub your hands together vigorously especially between the webs of your fingers, for at least 30 seconds
2 Stay hydrated; drink half your body weight in oz.  per day. That’s clear fluid, not coffee or tea with milk. Try green tea is an excellent anti-oxidant; Total Tea helps to detox the body at the same time.
3 People who exercise don’t get sick as often, so bundle up and go for a walk. Indoors….. use a treadmill or bike. Exercise increases the body’s immune system.
4 Manage your stress level. Have a regular aromatherapy massage or reflexology treatment to help reduce your stress level, remove toxins and build your immune system.
5 Take a quality multi vitamin and mineral supplement
6 Eat fruit and veggies from all colour groups, red, orange, green, blue, yellow, daily.
7 Dark green veggies, e.g. Algae/ spirulina, strengthen the immune system.
8 The pro-biotic found in yoghurt and capsule form, may promote a healthy immune system and result in fewer sick days.
9 Happy people don’t seem to get as sick as often, it seems they produce a protein called cytokine, which boosts the immunes system.
10 Tri-guard Echinacea taken at the first sign has been found to help and possibly prevent a cold.

Whenever I attend a function/conference/seminar, or will be in contact with a number of people, shaking hands etc, I will take, Tri-guard Echinacea, a slow release Vitamin C, along with my immune system boost drink, the day before, the day of, and the day after.

I also take this when I am travelling. It seems to work for me.

Why do I need to Detox? Part 2

Under normal circumstances our body can cope quite adequately with removing toxins and waste, however in today’s environment of pollution and stress, its ability to eliminate them suffers. As a result our body produces more fat cells in which to store toxic matter.  It’s good to give a helping hand.

Benefits of a detox To rid the body of: • Toxins  • Heavy metals, Lead, Mercury, Aluminium & Arsenic • Parasites, plaque, and inflammation

Three Stages of Detox  • Cleanse your colon, liver, kidneys and tissues • Replenish good bacteria and protect the flora and balance in your colon • Build your immune system

What can I expect? Results can vary. Typically, individuals have an improvement in their digestion and bowel movements, increased energy, increased mental clarity, weight loss, and decreased pain. Doing a cleanse is a great way to kick off a weight-loss program
What products should you use? Walk into any health food store, pharmacy or grocers, and you will find shelves lined with detox/ cleaning products. Which ones to use….?  NONE of THEM.

Seven Steps to cleanse your body:
• Water – Take your body weight in oz. a day. Pure clean water or clear fluids, herbal teas are good, (Total Tea) provided there is no milk or sugar added. .  Not tea, coffee, juice, alcohol.
• Diet –80% Alkaline Ash Forming foods, 20% Acid Ash Forming Foods. (I have added this flyer separately)  Increase fruits and vegetables 10 – 15 per day.  Unfortunately our fruits and veggies do not contain the nutrients expected; as a result we need to absorb twice as much.
• Exercise – 10 - 20 min. walk every day, go for a walk at lunchtime, walk up the stairs instead of using the elevator,. • Aromatherapy Lymphatic Drainage Massage - designed to stimulate the lymph system to remove toxins from your body and help return to it’s full potential.
• Aroma-Reflexology - to stimulate circulation and increase organ function to remove toxins from your body
• Supplements – Organic –
1 - to replace what’s missing from your diet and to build the immune system.
2 - to aid detoxification of your liver, colon and tissues.
• Bodi Detox Pads – put them on at night – see what comes out in the morning! A great way to ‘kick start’ your program. These are gentle, non invasive, and used in the privacy of your own home. They work through Osmosis, which is a natural body process.  More importantly, they are not stressful to your body, as are many products on the market today.

Why do I need to Detox? Part 1

A great question, and one I am frequently asked. So why do we need to detox/cleanse?

Your body is an amazing piece of machinery, consisting of 11/12 systems (if you count the skin as a system), trillions of cells, which interconnect with one another 24/7, 365 days of the year.

Think of your car, what makes it run? Gas, oil, water, and air. The better maintained and the quality of these products, the better your car will perform. If you fail to maintain any one of these; i.e. oil, your car will give poor performance, and eventually will stop, leaving you with a huge bill for a new engine/transmission.

Likewise, if you fail to maintain your body/health it will eventually fail to give you the energy and good health that you expect.

Do you experience any of the following?
• Feel fatigued, lethargic or irritable, have mood swings, feel down, easily depressed
• Have frequent colds or flu
• Suffer from headaches, migraine, lack concentration, poor memory recall
• Have digestive challenges; i.e. Indigestion, constipation, flatulence, bad breath, bloating, gas, stomach cramps
• Cardio-vascular disease; high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, leg cramps, cold hands or feet, palpitations
• Have difficulty sleeping, getting to sleep or staying asleep
• Have food allergies, skin irritations; psoriasis, dermatitis
• Experience muscle aches and pains or stiffness, have arthritis or rheumatism.
• Experience recurring yeast infections, candidiasis, athletes foot (foot fungus)
• Take medication, antibiotics, or sedatives on a long term basis
• Eat fast foods, processed, fried or pre-packaged foods more than twice a week
• Drink tea, coffee, colas, alcohol
• Do you smoke

Chances are you can relate to some of the above. If you answered yes to three or more, maybe it’s time for a tune up!   We all need a tune up every so often along with general maintenance.
Research has learnt that there are links between high levels of toxicity and diseases like Alzheimer’s, Cancer/Tumours, M.S., Infertility and Learning Disabilities.
The natural function of your body is:  1 To take in Nutrients: oxygen, water, vitamins, minerals, and many others 2 Excrete/ remove: toxins and the natural waste products of metabolism   Under normal circumstances, your body does this very well, however in today’s environment, your body also accumulates added impurities, toxic chemicals and metals (arsenic, lead, mercury), from everything around you. The air you breathe, the food you eat, and the water you drink.  When too many of these are absorbed, your body’s ability to remove them is reduced; as a result toxins are stored in the tissues causing disease.
Your liver, with the help of your kidneys and digestive system, is one of the most important organs of the body. Without going into too much detail, one of its prime functions is to remove toxic waste from your body and your blood.
Why should you detox or cleanse, for all the above reasons, so you can lead the healthy life you want.
Does this need to be complicated? Absolutely not.  Tune in for Part 2   I will show you how to stay healthy, easily and inexpensively

Aromatherapy Spa Facial – for men and women

Spring is around the corner; I like to think of this wonderful time of the year as a new beginning, a rebirth, of good times ahead. Of warmth and bulbs breaking through the ground.  Watch for the snowdrops, and the crocuses, which are also beginning to open up.
Now is also an excellent time to prepare your skin for the fun days ahead, when we are outside and enjoying good weather and wanting to look our best.

It’s all about YOU, Your face is a portrait of your personality and the first thing people notice about you.

So what can we do to help ourselves celebrate our individual beauty?

There are some things we have no control over: • Natural Aging • Climate, Sun, Humidity, Temperature, Wind • Pollution – Air Then they are some things we do have control over: • Stress • Nutrition, Water • Exercises • Sleep

Benefits of a Spa facial; • To visually slow down the aging process, by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles • Hydrate – rejuvenate • Improve skin texture • Feel and look radiant • Reduce Stress and feel relaxed

Close your eyes and imagine yourself on a beach, with the sound of gentle waves and a warm breeze blowing.  Imagine having your hands, arms and neck and shoulders massaged using wonderful aromatic oils while you relax and drift away.  Your personalized facial begins with the Skin D.R., to determine your skin’s texture and appearance, followed by cleansing and exfoliating with jojoba beads, ginseng and chamomile to gently remove dead skin cells and accelerate natural exfoliation. A gentle facial massage and acupressure follows, using essential oils, specific for your skins needs to stimulate and improve circulation, while removing toxins. While a gentle spa and masque are applied, your tired hands, arms, neck and shoulders are massaged. Listen to the music, smell the aroma, feel the warmth, and feel rejuvenated.

An Aromatherapy Spa Facial is not just for pampering, a treat, it is to help you feel and look radiant and to reduce your stress.

Happy Feet are Healthy Feet

The other day my feet, legs and back were really aching. Not surprising really, I had taken part in a couple of health shows, standing on my feet for eight hours each day. It reminded me of my life in the operating room standing in one place for hours at a time, shifting my weight from one foot to the other, to keep the circulation going.

Your feet take the full weight of your body; consequently when they are abused it affects your whole body, physically, mentally and emotionally. Who do you know who has a similar type of job, standing for long periods of time (retail), wearing tight fitting, or unsuitable shoes?

\What can we do to help our feet?
What can we do to help our feet? Happy Feet are Healthy Feet. Wear suitable footwear for the activity in question. If you are on vacation and sightseeing, walking on cobblestones or other uneven ground, wear a supportive shoe, not a pair of flip-flops, sandals or tight fitting shoes.

If your job requires you to stand for long periods of time, wear a low-heeled show with support. Maybe your job requires a professional/business look; high heels are not the only answer. Orthotics may help to support you body. There is no excuse for wearing tight fitting or high-heeled shoes in today’s market. Attractive supportive shoes can easily be found.

Aroma-Reflexology;
Aroma-Reflexology is more than just a foot massage. Reflexology is an ancient science that stimulates reflexes in the head, hands and feet. The reflexes relate to all parts of the body including glands, organs and systems. I concentrate on the feet and offer Reflexology, along with aromatherapy (the use of essential oils, highly volatile liquids taken from plants, with therapeutic properties) to relax and rejuvenate your body. Imagine your feet soaking in a warm foot bath with aromatic oils and Dead Sea salts followed by a leg massage and foot reflexology session.

Happy Feet
The room is warm and quiet with soft music playing. Benefits of an Aroma reflexology session:
Benefits of an Aroma reflexology session:
  • • Helps to relieve tension
  • Improves circulation
  • Normalizes and balances the body
  • Reduces blood pressure.

In today’s economy, I am going to suggest you look around and see whom you can help, a friend, family member, colleague, or employee. Who do you know who is recovering from ill health or a stressful situation?  Maybe it is even you!
